A Brief Overview of Airbnb Cancellation Policy Terms

  1. Flexible

The most accommodating cancellation policy offered to visitors is Airbnb Flexible. According to this policy, customers who cancel their reservations at least 24 hours before check-in (the property’s local time) will receive a full refund. Additionally, hosts will not receive the cleaning fee. The guest will still be responsible for payment for each night they stay plus one extra night if they cancel their reservation less than 24 hours before check-in. The guest is entitled to a complete refund for any nights left on the reservation if they choose to cancel after arriving.

Pros of The Flexible

  • Most attractive to guests seeking maximum booking flexibility
  • No commitment is required from guests.
  •  Guests receive a full refund if they cancel at least 24 hours before check-in, and a 50% refund if they cancel between 24 and 48 hours before check-in

Cons of the Flexible

  • Offers the least financial protection for hosts
  • it also increases the risk of last-minute cancellations, impacting your income
  • While it can potentially increase bookings
  1. Moderate

The most often chosen cancellation policy is the Moderate one. Although it is a little more stringent than the Flexible policy, visitors can still enjoy some degree of flexibility and the chance to get a complete refund. The Moderate policy reduces the risk of cancellations for Airbnb hosts. This policy states that a guest must cancel a reservation at least five days before the check-in date to obtain a full refund of the accommodation expenses.

The first night’s stay and the Airbnb service charge are not refundable if the guest cancels within five days of the booking start date. Furthermore, they will only be reimbursed for half of the booking expenses. A 50% refund of the lodging costs for any nights that remain will be given to the visitor if they decide to cancel after checking in. They will still cover the cost of any nights spent, though.

Pros of the Moderate

  • There are financial penalties for last-minute cancellations by guests.
  • More protection is offered to hosts from losses brought on by cancellations.
  • This cancellation policy’s nature might draw in more serious visitors.

Cons of the Moderate

  • Within a week of the reservation, hosts are still vulnerable to cancellations.
  • Even with the cancellation compensation, hosts will still only get a portion of their initial booking price back.
  • It could be challenging to obtain a replacement reservation for the canceled dates.
  • Control cancellations with GrowYourBnB Company
  1. Firm

To obtain a complete refund, guests need to cancel under the Firm’s cancellation policy at least thirty days before check-in. If your visitors cancel between seven and thirty days before check-in, our policy permits a 50% refund. Less than seven days before check-in, hosts will still receive full payment for all nights reserved by the visitor. This strikes a wonderful balance between having rigorous and accommodating cancelation procedures. In addition, guests who cancel within 48 hours of making their reservation as long as they do so at least 14 days after check-in are eligible for a full refund.

Pros of the Firm

  • While they are still unable to cancel at the last minute without incurring financial penalties, guests have sufficient leeway to do so within a fair amount of time.
  • More protection is offered to hosts against unforeseen financial losses.
  • If a guest cancels within the allotted period, hosts have enough time to secure a replacement reservation.

Cons of the Firm

  • Within one month of the reservation, hosts are still vulnerable to losses due to cancellation.
  • Finding a replacement guest could be challenging if the cancellation happens closer to the seven-day check-in window.
  1. Strict

As per the strict cancellation policy of Airbnb, visitors can avail of a complete refund if they cancel within 48 hours of making the reservation and at least 14 complete days before the local check-in time of the property. Regardless of how far in the future the check-in date is, guests are only eligible for a 50% refund after 48 hours.

In addition, if the guest cancels between seven and fourteen days before the start of the reservation, they will be reimbursed 50% of the lodging costs. Additionally, the cleaning charge will be refunded to them; but, the service price will not be. The guest will not be entitled to a refund if they cancel their reservation with less than seven days’ notice.

Pros of the Strict

  • Losses in money are not as likely to cause guests to cancel a reservation.
  • For canceled dates, hosts have extra time to secure a replacement reservation.
  • reduced chance of losing money due to cancellations.

Cons of the Strict

  • If a property has this policy, guests might be less likely to reserve it.
  • reduced exposure in the search results for Airbnb.
  • can result in a reduced fee for all reservations.
  1. Long-term (Strict and Flexible)

All reservations that are 28 nights or more are subject to the Airbnb Long-term cancelation policy. Once the reservation meets the requirements for a long-term stay, this policy will take precedence over your selected regular cancellation policy.

stringent long-term

Your visitors must cancel at least 28 days before check-in and within 48 hours of booking their reservation to receive a full refund under the stringent long-term cancellation policy.

The hosts receive full payment for all nights stayed plus an additional thirty nights if a guest cancels within 28 days of arrival or during their stay.

Should a guest cancel with less than 30 days remaining on their reservation, you will be reimbursed 100% of the total booking price for the nights that remain.

Flexible long-term

For guests to get a complete refund, they must offer a 30-day notice of cancellation. The first month’s reservation fee is still due if the guest cancels within 30 days of the scheduled check-in date.

In addition, the guest will be responsible for payment for 30 days from the date of cancellation if they want to check out early during their stay. Should a guest cancel with less than 30 days remaining on their reservation, you will be reimbursed 100% of the total booking price for the remaining nights.

Pros of the Flexible long-term

  • If a guest cancels, hosts have plenty of time to secure another reservation.
  • If a guest cancels within 28–30 days after check-in, hosts are reimbursed in full for the entire month.
  • It takes less effort for hosts to locate new visitors and make reservations.

Cons of the Flexible long-term

  • Reduced income opportunity.
  • Long-term visitors run a higher chance of causing harm to your home.
  • Greater possibility of issues resulting from extended reservations.

Super strict (30 Days)

Experienced hosts are the only ones who can use this feature; invitations only. If a guest cancels a reservation at least 30 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund under the Super Strict 30 Days cancellation policy.

The lodging costs are forfeited by the Airbnb visitor who cancels with less than 30 days remaining before check-in. Lastly, if a guest chooses to cancel after checking in, they will not receive any reimbursement.

Pros of the Flexible Long-term

  • It is rare for visitors who reserve accommodations with this arrangement to cancel.
  • In the unlikely case that guests must cancel, hosts are fairly compensated.
  • If a guest cancels, there’s still plenty of time to make another reservation for those dates.

Cons of the Flexible Long-term

  • This guideline may deter potential guests from booking a home.
  • can result in a reduced fee for all reservations.
  • Adhering to this regulation could give guests the idea that you’re a severe or cold host.

Super strict (60 Days)

The Super Strict 30 Days policy and the Super Strict 60 Days policy operate essentially similarly. This is an invitation-only service that is limited to experienced hosts. The only distinction is that to receive a 50% refund of the lodging costs, the client must cancel the reservation at least sixty days before check-in.

The Airbnb visitor will not be reimbursed if they decide to cancel after booking or with less than 60 days remaining till check-in. The Super Strict 30 Days and the Super Strict 60 Days are by invitation only and apply to exceptional circumstances.

Pros of the Super Strict (60 Days)

  • It is rare for visitors who reserve accommodations with this arrangement to cancel.
  • In the unlikely case that guests must cancel, hosts are fairly compensated.
  • If a guest cancels, there’s still plenty of time to make another reservation for those dates.

Cons of the Super Strict (60 Days)

  • This guideline may deter potential guests from booking a home.
  • can result in a reduced fee for all reservations.
  • Adhering to this regulation could give guests the idea that you’re a severe or cold host.
